Cost Breakdown: We Generated 7 Cinematic AI Videos for $9.03

April 10, 2026 · 5 min read Cost Analysis Seedance 2.0 Transparency

We spent two days building AI fashion films for our sister product FashionFlow. Seven cinematic product videos. Four AI-generated storyboard images. One invoice.

Total: $9.03.

Here's every dollar we spent — no hidden fees, no "contact sales," no asterisks. Just a table.

💡 Why publish this? Most AI video companies hide their pricing behind enterprise paywalls. We think that's backwards. If your tool is affordable, show the receipts. Radical transparency builds more trust than any landing page ever will.

The Project

Over April 8–9, 2026, we produced 7 cinematic product videos using Seedance 2.0 through ArkRoute's own API. The products: luxury handbags, watches, and summer fashion accessories. Each video is a multi-shot fashion film with real cinematic cuts — not a static image with a slow Ken Burns pan-and-zoom.

We used multi-panel storyboards as reference images, meaning Seedance 2.0 read each panel as a separate shot and generated coherent scene transitions between them. The storyboard images themselves were generated with NanoBanana (our built-in image model) for about two cents each.

Everything ran through the same api.ark-route.com endpoint our customers use. No special pricing. No internal discounts. The bill below is what you'd pay too.

The Itemized Bill

#VideoModelDurationCostNotes
1 Handbag storyboard test Fast 5s $0.85 First reference_image test — proved the concept
2 Handbag Paris multi-ref Fast 5s $0.85 2×2 storyboard, autumn Paris scene
3 Watch Caravaggio still life Fast 5s $0.85 Dark moody lighting, oil-painting aesthetic
4 Honeydew summer fashion Fast 10s $1.70 4-panel storyboard, lifestyle film
5 Honeydew v2 (longer cut) Fast 10s $1.70 Re-shot with refined prompt — kept both takes
6 Hero shot (Pro quality) Pro 5s $2.15 Best physics, chosen for the product page
7 API validation clip Fast 5s $0.85 Production smoke test before launch
Storyboard images (×4) NanoBanana ~$0.08 4 storyboard grids at ~$0.02 each
Total $9.03

Seven videos. Four storyboard images. Two days of production. Nine dollars and three cents.

How That Compares

Let's put $9.03 in context. Here's what the same deliverable — 7 short product videos — would cost through traditional channels:

$3,500–$7,000
Freelance videographer
$350–$700
Licensed stock footage
$35–$70
Other AI video APIs
$9.03
ArkRoute + Seedance 2.0

Compared to hiring a videographer, that's a 99.7% cost reduction. Compared to other AI video APIs like Runway Gen-3 or Sora, it's roughly 4–8× cheaper for comparable output quality.

And unlike stock footage, every frame is original — generated for your specific product, in your brand's aesthetic, with your creative direction.

The Quality Gap Is Closing

Let's be honest: AI-generated video isn't replacing a Spike Jonze commercial anytime soon. But for the content that actually drives revenue — social media ads, email campaign hero banners, e-commerce product pages, Instagram Reels — these are production-ready today.

The Seedance 2.0 Pro upgrade (video #6 above) was noticeably better on physics — cloth draping, light refraction, and camera motion all felt more grounded. For hero shots that need to look polished, the $2.15 Pro premium is worth every cent.

Unit Economics: What a Real Content Budget Looks Like

$0.85
Fast 5s draft clip
Less than a gas station coffee
$2.15
Pro 5s hero shot
About a dollar less than a latte
~$15
Full product launch
10 drafts + 2 Pro hero shots
$40–$60
Monthly content budget
~30 videos per month

Think about what this means for a small e-commerce brand. Instead of budgeting $500–$2,000/month for product video, you're budgeting the cost of a nice dinner. You can afford to iterate — shoot 10 drafts, pick the best 2, upscale them to Pro. That workflow was impossible when each attempt cost $500.

For agencies managing multiple brands, the math is even more dramatic. A 10-client portfolio generating 5 videos each per week costs roughly $170/month instead of $35,000.

How We Keep Costs This Low

ArkRoute is a lightweight API gateway — we route your request to the upstream model provider (in this case ByteDance's Volcano Engine) and handle auth, billing, and status polling. Our margin comes from the spread between our USD price and the upstream RMB cost.

We don't run our own GPU clusters. We don't add a 10× markup "for the platform." We don't lock you into annual contracts. You pay per generation, in credits, with transparent per-model pricing listed on our pricing page.

Try It Yourself

Every new ArkRoute account comes with 500 free credits — enough for 5+ draft videos or 2 Pro hero shots. No credit card required to start.
